There’s nothing quite as satisfying as finding something at one of Town Square’s Greencycle Swaps. There’s the rush of a score. And it’s free. Then, there’s the deep joy of knowing that you’re helping our planet by saving something from the landfill. Last Saturday, Town Square partnered up with The PTA Green Team at local elementary school P.S. 34 Oliver H. Perry for a special Greencycle Swap just for kids.
The partnership was a brainchild of Lisa Jaycox, The Green Team Chair and Susan Anderson, Town Square Executive Director. Here are Lisa’s heartfelt words.

“Thank you again for all of your help with the Greencycle Swap yesterday– we could not have pulled it off so well without you!
I was so impressed by how many people came, and the generous support from our school volunteers and local community volunteers from the Boy Scouts Troop 26 and Brooklyn Tech High School. When you have such great help, anything is possible!
I was also touched by the simple, yet meaningful action of sharing unneeded items with people who were thrilled to get new items, without any middle man, just person to person– what a thoughtful role for our school community to play. The Green Team looks for ways to bring sustainability, healthy living, and environmental stewardship into our school community, and we showed our kids how giving back as a volunteer or through donations can help make a difference by removing trash from landfills and encouraging reuse, but also the value of sharing once loved items with a new family and home.”
