Breaking News from North Brooklyn Parks Alliance! NBPA press release, dated August 28, 2019 follows.
Today, as the new Kosciuszko Bridge opened, Governor Cuomo announced $7M in State funding to support North Brooklyn Parks Alliance’s latest initiative, the Under the K Bridge Park. For those of you who have been following this project, NBPA unveiled a framework design for the new seven-acre park in June.
Defined by the bridge’s soaring concrete beams that expand from 40-feet-high at the entrance to 120 feet at the waterfront, Under the K is at once a park and a series of massive industrial spaces that create opportunities for cross disciplinary collaborations not possible in other New York City venues. Culminating at the Newtown Creek, Under the K will be among the few public access points to the water’s edge, becoming a platform for environmental initiatives. Other programming will span public art installations, musical performances, and recreation.
We just posted a new position for NBPA’s inaugural DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS, who will help us develop and execute the park’s first season in 2020. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project develops!
