The annual NYC Outdoors! An Environmental Education Expo is happening this year on Thursday, December 6th at New York University’s Kimmel Center. This one-of-a-kind event brings together over 40 environmental education and sustainability organizations from the New York City area.
Among familiar participants are Solar One, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Gowanus Canal Conservancy, and of-course, Town Square’s Go Green BK. These organizations come to display their education programs, initiatives, and opportunities for teachers, students, and the general public.
The EE Expo started in 2002, and has been held annually in the fall ever since. The EE Expo functions as an open house for teachers to learn about educational initiatives related to the Hudson River Estuary.
The first Expo was made possible with funding from the National Science Foundation, the River Project, and the NYU Wallerstein Collaborative for Urban Environmental Education. Over the years, and in partnership with the NYC Soil and Water Conservation District, the Expo grew to include the broader field of urban environmental education. In 2010, it moved to NYU and has found its home there every year since! The Expo connects hundreds of New York City teachers and students to environmental organizations and has provided a space for environmental educators to come together and get to know each other’s programs.
The EE Expo is a great event for anyone interested in sustainability and the environment in New York City (and beyond)! The event is free and open to the public. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Learn more and RSVP here!
This year’s Expo is sponsored and hosted by The NYU Wallerstein Collaborative for Urban Environmental Education, the Office of Sustainability at NYU, NYC Soil and Water Conservation District, and The River Project, in partnership with the Environmental Education Advisory Council and New York State Outdoor Education Association.
