Finally! After a long pandemic winter, our beloved Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center – along with 12 other public Brooklyn Public Library branches – opened its doors for first floor browsing and computer use. Joy! As one local mom exclaimed, “James (her young son) and I just went fully inside a library for the first time in 15 months and got to browse! He picked out 1 billion chapter books and it was just so exciting.”
The library will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and from 1 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. According to the library’s website, you can now visit the library in-person to:
- Browse the shelves: Patrons can browse first-floor shelves and check out books and materials at the checkout desk, or use self-check machines or the BPL mobile app.
- Use the computers and printers: Patrons can call the branch in advance or visit the service desk to reserve up to two computer sessions per day, or send documents to quick release printers.
- Register, renew or upgrade a library card: Activate a new library card (you can apply in advance on our website) renew a card, or upgrade an eCard.
- Holds pickup & returns: Patrons can pick up the books they’ve reserved in advance and return books and other materials.
- Masks are required for both patrons and staff. You will be unable to enter the branch without a mask.
The library was rebuilt with the help of funds from the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF). The process began in 2017 and we can now fully celebrate.
