Mayday Festival

Saturday, May 4th at 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Free

The Mayday Festival of Resistance is back for the first time since 2022! Join us at Maria Hernandez Park on Saturday, May 4th to celebrate International Workers Day at this FREE festival of music, community, and solidarity. There will be speakers and resource tables from community and labor organizations, art activities for kids and families, and an amazing lineup of New York based musicians.

We’re excited to announce our lineup of performances from Rueda de Oro, Escuela Popular de Arte Sonoro, Material Support, Las Mariquitas and Discolocas. Don’t miss their amazing performances and this chance to join in on joyful resistance with the community.

@mariquitas.band Lasmariquitas is New York’s Queer and Trans Salsa band. A political liberation project, Las Mariquitas celebrates the community of LGBTQIA+ salserxs in an affirming safe space. Las Mariquitas shares the stage with queer and trans dance instructors, creating a culture of consent on the dance floor, and honoring the legacy of salsa as liberation music by writing new queer and transfeminist songs for the canon.

@materialsupport is a political Pinoy punk band that uplifts people’s struggles against capitalism, fascism, and patriarchy. Named after the post-9/11 law “material support for terrorism” that has been used to target and repress social movements and whoever the US has labeled as enemies to its empire, they reclaim the term and make music to support movements in the Philippines and around the world that are fighting for social justice and liberation.

@escuelapopulardeartesonoro is a band created in mayday’s music program led by artist in residence @manifiesto_music . They are an immigrant youth band that channel their musical talents to elevate local social justice and mutual aid efforts. They’ve performed at benefit shows for recently arrived migrants, abortion justice, stop cop city bail funds, and Mayday Festival! Los Lil’ Kumbia will be joined by artists @estrella_nortena_ and @audryfunk!

@discolocas is a DJ collective of latina women with the mission to open up a safe and supportive space where women selectors and DJs felt comfortable sharing their vinyl selections. Since March 2022, there have been numerous parties and over 23 women have taken over the turntables.

Help us sustain this space–SUGGESTED DONATION OF $5-$10!!
