Volunteer Workday: Raised Bed Building at Vinegar Hill Community Garden

Saturday, June 6th at 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Join Vinegar Hill Community Garden and NYC Parks GreenThumb for an educational volunteer day building up and repairing existing raised beds using hand and power tools. We’ll provide all the tools, training, and guidance to ensure a productive and safe volunteer day! Please wear sturdy work shoes and weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note some tasks will involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending, squatting, and moving.

Vinegar Hill Community Garden is a community green space in Brooklyn focused on gardening, environmental stewardship, and neighborhood connection. The garden includes fruit trees, community herb beds, a bee colony, composting initiatives, and shared growing spaces designed to bring people together through collective care and education.

For information about group volunteering, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program, at gt.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov.

This event is part of the Ninth Annual Open Garden NYC, which will take place on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 2026 (rain or shine) at community gardens across the city! For more information and to see all of the Open Garden NYC events, visit our website.

This event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. GreenThumb community gardens are organized, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
