During this workshop\, we’ll be guided by the works of Edna Lewis and Abby Fisher as we delve into the traditions of preserving stone\, pome\, and berry fruits. We’ll learn about various late-spring fruits relevant to the African diaspora\, different types of fruit preserves\, and get into foundational skills for making your own shelf-stable jam or jelly. Join us to discuss the splendor of greens and their relevance in Afro-Indigenous diasporas\, as well as prepare a few dishes that highlight their versatility in the kitchen. \nThis session is a continuation of The Soul of Food\, a Deep Routes workshop series honoring the foodways that connect plants\, peoples\, and lands across Afro-Indigenous diasporas. \nThis event is hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support\, community gardens are centers of environmental justice\, ensuring that our city is fairer\, safer\, and greener for all.
