SUMMARY:NASA's TechRise Student Challenge: Winner Showcase
DESCRIPTION:NASA Challenges Students to Fly Earth and Space Experiments \nAre you ready for this year’s NASA TechRise Student challenge? From researching Earth’s environment to designing experiments for space exploration\, schools are invited to join NASA in its mission to inspire the world through discovery. If you are in 6th to 12th grade at a U.S. public\, private\, or charter school – including those in U.S. territories – your challenge is to team up with your schoolmates and develop a science or technology experiment idea for this year’s NASA TechRise flight vehicle – the high-altitude balloon! \nThe High-Altitude Balloon will offer approximately four to eight hours of flight time at approximately 70\,000 to 95\,000 feet and exposure to Earth’s atmosphere\, high-altitude radiation\, and perspective views of our planet. \nA total of 60 winning teams will be selected to build their proposed experiment. Each winning team will be awarded: \n\n$1\,500 to build their experiment\nA flight box in which to build it\nAn assigned spot to test their experiment on a NASA-sponsored flight\nTechnical support during the experiment build phase from Future Engineers’ advisors\, who will help students learn the skills they need to turn their experiment idea into reality.\n\nNote that no experience is necessary to participate in the NASA TechRise Challenge! \n\n\n\nImportant Dates:\n\n· Aug. 1st: Contest begins\n· September 20th: Virtual student field trip RSVP HERE\n· November 1st\, 2024: Entries due\n\n· January 21\, 2025: Winners announced \n\n· May 13\, 2025: Winner Showcase \n\n· May 14\, 2025: Send in experiments \n· Summer 2025: Launch experiments\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll TechRise Student Challenge info + submission guidelines can be found here: https://www.futureengineers.org/nasatechrise.

SUMMARY:Soul of Food: Afro-Indigenous Traditions of Harvesting
DESCRIPTION:As cooler weather begins to debut\, with it comes the warm hues of fruits\, roots\, and seeds that are ready to be gathered for the fall harvest. \nIn honor of this abundant season we’ll discuss traditions and technologies of harvesting across African and Indigenous diasporas\, process some storage crops (e.g. sorghum\, rice\, beans\, and cotton\, dependent upon their readiness)\, and prepare a simple yet satiating dish using some of the featured ingredients together. \nThis session is a continuation of The Soul of Food\, a Deep Routes workshop series honoring the foodways that connect plants\, peoples\, and lands across Afro-Indigenous diasporas.
