SUMMARY:Ways to See the Color Blue: Fiber Dyeing and Weaving (Prospect Heights Community Farm)
DESCRIPTION:Anaerobic reduction of woad releases indigo\, which turns blue with oxygen. We will use aerobic and anaerobic dye processes as a mode for thinking about art\, ecology\, and dyeing fiber. Participants will learn how to create a woad vat\, dye fiber\, and take home a handmade tapestry loom to finish weaving at their leisure. \nThis workshop will be facilitated by Sofia van Leeuwen (Prospect Heights Community Farm). \nThis event is hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support\, community gardens are centers of environmental justice\, ensuring that our city is fairer\, safer\, and greener for all.
