DESCRIPTION:Join Prophecy Garden and NYC Parks GreenThumb for a hands-on volunteer day to fill newly built raised beds with nutrient-rich soil! Prophecy Garden is located in New Lots\, Brooklyn and cared for by members of the community and the neighboring church. During the growing season\, all can enjoy the space\, learn about urban gardening\, and attend the garden’s public events. Consider lending a hand to help kick off the season! \nNo prior experience necessary! Beginner and experienced volunteers are welcome to participate and support a volunteer-run community garden. \nPlease wear sturdy work shoes and weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note: Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending\, squatting\, and moving. \nFor information about group volunteering\, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program\, at GT.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov. \nThis event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. GreenThumb community gardens are organized\, led\, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. With GreenThumb’s support\, community gardens are centers of environmental justice\, ensuring that our city is fairer\, safer\, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
