DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the season of abundance and harvest this session we will create our own pickles. We will be discussing with participants the benefits of pickles and how to prolong the life of fresh produce. \nThis workshop is for those 18 years old and older. It will take place twice. Once on August 3rd and once on August 17th. Registration opens 48 hours beforehand. If you register for the first workshop\, please do not register for the second to allow others to take part. \nRoots Unbound (RU) is an abolitionist grassroots organization based in Brooklyn offering nature-based programming centered around food justice\, therapeutic horticulture and ecological disinvestment to people in the NYC area with a focus on supporting and uplifting people impacted by the carceral system.

DESCRIPTION:Plants such as culinary and medicinal herbs can provide a variety of sensory stimulation whether it’s the refreshing scent of mint or the zesty flavor of lemon thyme. In this workshop\, we will gather together and discover what some of those feelings\, thoughts\, and memories are. At the end of the workshop\, we will make our own blend of herbal teas. \nThis workshop is for those 18 years old and older. It will take place twice. Once on July 6th and once on July 20th. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a workshop with Stephanie Fox to learn how to harness the potential of the NYC Climate Dashboard\, a one-stop-shop webpage for all things climate and environmental information related in NYC. \nThe Dashboard aims to help New Yorkers hold the City accountable to its climate goals\, to mitigate the threats of climate crisis\, advance a just transition to renewable energy and a green economy\, and build a city that’s more resilient in the face of rising seas and temperatures. This training will give communities the knowledge they need to use this data in their community and advocacy work.   \n*** \nStephanie Fox is the Strategic Organizer for Environmental and Climate Justice at the Office of the New York City Comptroller Brad Lander\, where they work in the intersection of policy and public engagement on all issues climate. Prior to this\, they spent three years at the Office of the NYC Public Advocate\, where they led climate organizing for the office. They come to public service after nearly a decade in both climate advocacy and the private renewables industry where they lead customer engagement and business development projects across the country for companies like NRG and Alphabet.

Participants will learn Simplified Tai Chi 24-movement\, “Eight Pieces of Brocade” a qigong exercise\, and Tai Chi for Arthritis and for Fall Prevention. \nMr. Choey will also teach about the history\, art\, and culture behind these Tai Chi movements that date back thousands of years. Participants will form relationships with class members through activities. The series will end on June 30th with a celebration and performance for family and friends. \n\n\nKwok Kay Choey has practiced Tai Chi/Qigong for more than 50 years. He often participates in tai chi seminars in Asia. He has instructor certification in Tai Chi for Arthritis & for Fall Prevention from the Dr. Paul Lam Tai Chi for Health Institute. He practices the Yang style\, tracing tai chi’s martial arts origins while emphasizing its health benefits. He has taught at the Queensborough Community College\, Brooklyn Botanic Garden\, Brooklyn Public Library\, Teamsters Local 237 Retirees\, and senior centers\, etc. \nTai Chi (Supreme Ultimate) is a form of Chinese martial arts. It originated in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Its slow movements emphasize that one’s Yin and Yang be brought to balance. Regular practice improves balance and blood circulation. It relaxes the mind and body\, and increases the chi (internal energy).

Participants will learn Simplified Tai Chi 24-movement\, “Eight Pieces of Brocade” a qigong exercise\, and Tai Chi for Arthritis and for Fall Prevention. \nMr. Choey will also teach about the history\, art\, and culture behind these Tai Chi movements that date back thousands of years. Participants will form relationships with class members through activities. The series will end on June 30th with a celebration and performance for family and friends. \n\n\nKwok Kay Choey has practiced Tai Chi/Qigong for more than 50 years. He often participates in tai chi seminars in Asia. He has instructor certification in Tai Chi for Arthritis & for Fall Prevention from the Dr. Paul Lam Tai Chi for Health Institute. He practices the Yang style\, tracing tai chi’s martial arts origins while emphasizing its health benefits. He has taught at the Queensborough Community College\, Brooklyn Botanic Garden\, Brooklyn Public Library\, Teamsters Local 237 Retirees\, and senior centers\, etc. \nTai Chi (Supreme Ultimate) is a form of Chinese martial arts. It originated in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Its slow movements emphasize that one’s Yin and Yang be brought to balance. Regular practice improves balance and blood circulation. It relaxes the mind and body\, and increases the chi (internal energy).
