DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and NOAA at the Canarsie Beach Cleanup! \n\n\n\n\nPlease join us along with CM Mercedes Narcisse’s office for a volunteer cleanup at Canarsie Beach in Brooklyn. \nThis once small fishing village saw its population boom after WWII and at one time was a major competitor to Coney Island. The Pier and beach remain a hotspot for fishing\, paddling and picnics. Located within the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area\, Canarsie Beach and salt marsh also remain hotspots for marine wildlife and birds. \nThe cleanup will run from 10am to 12:00pm. Gloves\, garbage bags and pickers will be provided. \nPlease dress appropriately for the weather and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. \n. \n2026 Events\nMarch\, 14\, 10 am – 12 pm \nJune 13\, 10 am – 12 pm

DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and City Council District 46 at the Canarsie Pier Cleanup! \nPlease join us along with CM Mercedes Narcisse’s office for a volunteer cleanup at Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn! \nCanarsie Pier connects to Canarsie Park and overlooks Paerdegat Basin. Before the 1920s\, Paerdegat Basin was Paerdegat Creek\, a freshwater tidal creek connecting to Jamaica Bay. Canarsie Park is known for its recreation facilities\, but it is also home to a surprising number of diverse wildlife spanning multiple acquatic ecosystems due to Canarsie’s close proximity to the seashore and its lesser known wetland hiking trails. \nThe cleanup will run from 10am to 12:00pm. Gloves\, garbage bags and pickers will be provided. \nPlease wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. 💧 \nThanks to Council Member Mercedes Narcisse for supporting our environmental stewardship programs.
