SUMMARY:A Very Modern Classical Evening (Prospect Park)
DESCRIPTION:Brooklyn’s favorite free theater\, Molière in the Park is back with a staged reading of Le’Asha Julius’ new play The Regulars + Molière’s The Ludicrous Ladies! \nAbout the Play: \n“Pairing The Regulars\, a short tragedy in verse by rapper\, actor\, and playwright Le’Asha Julius with The Ludicrous Ladies\, a one act comedy in prose by Molière might appear at first as an exercise in contrast. New versus old\, serious versus farcical\, political versus domestic… but in content and in form the plays\, of course\, are neither fully one nor the other. More importantly\, despite the time and space that separates their authors\, both plays center two impassioned women with complex desires. Desires they fight for\, and that may or may not be born exclusively out of the limitations imposed on them by their place in the world. Will this pairing open up an angle of reflection on women’s struggles and how they’ve evolved or persisted? We hope you’ll join us to find out!”\n– Lucie Tiberghien \nAbout Molière in the Park: \nMolière in the Park’s (MIP) mission is to promote empathy and unity within the diverse communities in Brooklyn through the arts. MIP offers free opportunities for all to come together in Prospect Park and experience the benefits of theater. MIP’s vision is of a Brooklyn where all communities can benefit equally from access to theater and the Arts.

SUMMARY:Climate Struggle and the Fight for the Tonawanda Seneca Way of Life (Central Library)
DESCRIPTION:The Tonawanda Seneca Nation is fighting the construction of a mega-industrial site on the border of the Nation’s present-day reservation territory in Western NY. This development would irreparably harm lands and waters where Tonawanda Seneca citizens continue to hunt\, fish\, and gather traditional medicines\, posing an existential threat to the Nation’s collective continuance on their homelands. We’ll hear from a Tonawanda Seneca Nation citizen and non-Indigenous ally and learn how this struggle is linked to the statewide movement for environmental justice and a livable climate. \nSpeakers: \nChristine G. Abrams is a citizen of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation\, Beaver Clan\, and\, first and foremost\, a mother\, grandmother\, and aunt. Christine had worked for the Council of Chiefs for 27 years and currently serves as TSN Office Administrator. Christine is active in the community and several organizations. \nSarah Howard (they/them) is a settler ally living on unceded Onondaga Nation homelands in Syracuse\, NY. Sarah works for the Tonawanda Seneca Nation Council of Chiefs\, organizing allies to act in solidarity with the Nation in their fight against the Western NY STAMP mega-industrial site. Additionally\, they work as the Student Coordinator for the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Sarah holds an MS in Environmental Science from SUNY ESF and is happiest in the forest. \nRyan Madden (he/him) is a settler ally living on unceded Lenape and Canarsie homelands in Brooklyn\, NY. Ryan is the Climate & Energy Campaigns Director for the Long Island Progressive Coalition where he leads efforts for energy democracy and climate justice in the region and across the state. Ryan is also the Co-Chair of the Indigenous Engagement Committee for NY Renews where he organizes coalition members to act in solidarity with the priorities of various Nations in the territory of NYS. Ryan holds a BA in Political Science & Environmental Studies from SUNY Binghamton. \n350Brooklyn is a volunteer-driven group that mobilizes people to take effective local action to address the climate crisis. We are committed to pursuing solutions that both reduce climate pollution and ensure that low-income New Yorkers and environmental justice communities participate fully in the benefits the shift to renewable energy will bring.

SUMMARY:A Thousand and One Nights: Exploring Nocturnal Bird Migration (BK Central Library)
DESCRIPTION:For most of human existence\, the seasonal flight of migratory birds and insects has been hidden in plain sight in the night sky above us. The last century of technological advances accelerated our ability to see\, study\, and participate in this breathtaking effort millions of years in the making. All the while\, the landscapes to which these sojourners arrive are disappearing faster than ever. Join us as an urban birder\, rooftop farmer\, and author Annie Novak discusses her new work\, an illustrated narrative of the scientific understanding of nocturnal bird migration. Novak explores this emerging map with history\, humor\, curiosity\, and vibrant visual imagination\, prompting us to look at the skies above in a new light.  Learn about the new technology available to understand these incredible journeys\, and how to support birds along the way. \n\n\nAnnie Novak is the founder and director of Growing Chefs: Food Education from Field to Fork\, the Manager of the Edible Academy at the New York Botanical Garden; co-founder and farmer of the nation’s first green roof vegetable farm\, the Eagle Street Rooftop Farm in Greenpoint\, Brooklyn; and author of The Rooftop Growing Guide: How to Transform Your Roof into a Garden or Farm. She has served on the board of the American Bird Conservancy since 2018. Her words and work are widely featured in the New York Times\, Martha Stewart Living\, NPR\, and the September issue of Vogue\, among other publications. Her current writing and illustration work brings to light the nocturnal migration of birds. For more: annienovak.com and https://linktr.ee/heyannienovak \nAnnie Novak\, photo Naima Green
