DESCRIPTION:Theater 2020 will present THE TEMPEST\, a 75-minute fast-paced version meant for the whole family. \n*** \nTheater 2020 will present THE TEMPEST for their “Shakespeare at Sunset” production this season\, presented in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. \nTHE TEMPEST\, adapted by David Fuller\, is a 75-minute fast-paced version meant for the whole family: Shakespeare’s comedy about revenge\, redemption and forgiveness. Prospero\, the deposed Duke of Milan\, has been marooned on an isle with his daughter\, Miranda\, in a coup precipitated by his traitorous brother Antonio and the wily King of Naples. But Prospero is a wizard\, on a par with Hogwarts’ Dumbledore\, and he conjures a storm to bring his enemies to judgement on this very isle of wonder and enchantment. His enemies are put through trials\, his daughter becomes engaged\, his enslaved island subjects are freed\, and Prospero finds the true power of the most magical human gift\, Love. \nShakespeare’s plays continue to be relevant to 21st Century audiences\, as can be seen from current world-wide popularity. THE TEMPEST\, in particular speaks to us as a tale engendered as revenge\, but projected through the lens of love\, it becomes a story of forgiveness. With this as the spine of the play\, we are then entertained by Shakespeare’s comic trio of Caliban\, Trinculo and Stephano\, plus the magic of Prospero and Ariel. THE TEMPEST has a relevant message\, yes\, but it is highly entertaining! And as adapted by Fuller\, the show is a fast-paced 75 minutes that will be enjoyed by young and old alike.

Expanding the Conservancy’s beloved Kite Festival\, this year we’re adding music to our Colors throughout the Park! We invite you to join us for this day-long festival\, to herald the arrival of Spring with live musical performances\, food vendors\, kids activities\, and activities from our partners! \nWatch your kite soar above the Manhattan skyline the one day of the year kite-flying is open to the public at Brooklyn Bridge Park at Pier 5. Join for kite-making workshops and be awed at the talent of expert flying instructors – and learn some tips! This family-friendly festival unites S.T.E.A.M concepts\, the Caribbean’s rich history of kite-flying\, and outdoor adventures. \nLive entertainment will be provided by the Eruption Steel Orchestra. Additionally Maestro\, Trumpeter\, conductor\, composer and arranger Igmar Thomas will curate live musical performances at locations across the park. Check back for schedule and full details. \nWe highly encourage families to celebrate their own kite-flying traditions as well as their heritage by bringing their own kites. Kites will also be for sale\, alongside workshops to make kites in the Caribbean tradition. \nBring your family\, kids and friends to enjoy the free all-day festival.
