SUMMARY:Walt Whitman's Song of Myself
DESCRIPTION:The Walt Whitman Initiative’s annual “Song of Myself” Marathon is an open public reading of Walt Whitman’s celebrated poem. \nReaders volunteer to recite the 52 sections of “Song of Myself”\, often personalizing their reading with an interpretation through song\, dance\, translation into different languages\, musical accompaniment\, or other original means. If interested\, check back for registration! \nThe 52 sections are performed sequentially without an intermission. Audience attendees are invited to sit on the Granite Prospect steps facing readers\, while enjoying views of Manhattan Bridge\, the Brooklyn Bridge and East River. \nThe podium has a microphone that is connected to two speakers to amplify the recitations. A limited number of chairs will be available for those for whom sitting on the steps is difficult or uncomfortable. \nWalt Whitman lovers may also want to join the day before for the Walt Whitman Walking Tour on Saturday\, September 14!

DESCRIPTION:Green Team takes place twice a month\, April-October.   \nGreen Team volunteers support essential horticultural care in Brooklyn Bridge Park\, completing tasks such as weeding\, planting and mulching. This is a great opportunity to learn about gardening\, enjoy nature\, and make a tangible difference in the Park with a group of other volunteers. \nVolunteers of all ages are welcome (under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) and no volunteer orientation is required. Tours last roughly 60-90 minutes\, start from the entrance of Pier 1 and finish near Pier 3. \nAdvance registration is required. Ma Cherie and Jam Central (of Lovers Rock) and Mohogany will be spinning Studio One\, Dancehall\, afrobeats\, and amapiano all afternoon at Pier 6 Liberty Lawn.  \nAfrican Chop House was inspired by the sounds\, smells\, and visuals that surrounded us growing up In West Africa\, a chop bar is a roadside bar/restaurant that serves as a meeting place for the community. It brings people together through food and music to exchange information\, ideas and connect with each other. \nFood and drink will be available for sale – enjoy delicious food selections curated by African Chop House including Makina Cafe (Ethiopian) and Gold Coast. Beer\, wine\, soft drinks\, and more for sale at our Bar by Fornino. \nCome with friends\, or come alone — these afternoons are an opportunity to relax\, lay out\, and do not too much of anything\, while a rotation of DJ’s do their thing in the background. We’re taking lazy Sundays very seriously\, creating moments for good vibes and good people. Pack a blanket or cushion – please note no lawn chairs allow on the lawn. \nBring your good vibes and your best moves – RSVP so we know you’re coming! \nPlease note that all attendees will have bags checked. This is an all-ages event\, but youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Only adults 21 and over may purchase alcohol\, which must be consumed on site.
