Spend an afternoon with a loved one volunteering with gardeners of El Garden and NYC Parks GreenThumb! EL Garden in Bushwick\, Brooklyn is stewarded by dedicated gardeners in the community. They use the garden to grow food\, flowers\, and trees\, have a 3-bin composting system to recycle food scraps\, and several areas for social gatherings and events. The gardeners are excited to welcome and work with volunteers on various projects. \nParticipate in this workday by helping us build and expand raised beds\, build a platform for a rainwater harvesting system\, and transport soil throughout the garden. Volunteers will learn basic carpentry and garden maintenance skills! This is a great opportunity to learn about the garden’s history\, programming\, and membership process. \nGloves and tools will be provided. SUMMARY:Ways to See the Color Blue: Fiber Dyeing and Weaving (Prospect Heights Community Farm)
DESCRIPTION:Anaerobic reduction of woad releases indigo\, which turns blue with oxygen. We will use aerobic and anaerobic dye processes as a mode for thinking about art\, ecology\, and dyeing fiber.
