SUMMARY:Conflict Transformation Circles for Community Gardeners
DESCRIPTION:Conflict is natural and can happen even in the most well-organized garden group or with the best of friends. How can we hold space for and resolve conflict within our groups? In these monthly sessions\, mediators Skye Roper-Moses and Michelle Jackson will facilitate discussion circles for community gardeners to bring their challenges to the group and collectively generate solutions. The facilitators will model skills for holding space that gardeners can bring back to their groups to develop a practice for addressing and transforming conflict in the garden. This will be a confidential space that is not recorded\, ensuring your privacy and comfort. These sessions are held monthly\, and themes for discussion are based on issues brought forward at the prior session. Participants are welcome to attend them all or just drop in for one. \nNYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. SUMMARY:Volunteer Workday: George Washington Carver Community Garden
DESCRIPTION:GreenThumb community gardens are developed\, led\, and cared for by dedicated volunteers who critically upkeep community gardens as public green spaces. \nFounded in 1996 with the help of the neighboring school\, I.S. 318 (its former namesake)\, this garden has ample space to grow produce\, flora\, start seeds\, care for chickens\, and host community programs. George Washington Carver Community Garden (est. 2023) currently has over twenty-two (22) raised beds for growing food\, multiple bee hives\, compost systems\, and vast landscape planting opportunities. As a recipient of support from NYC Parks GreenThumb\, the garden group must collectively fulfill certain requirements\, including\, but not limited to\, hosting Open Hours (April 1-Oct 31)\, maintaining the garden\, having a clear path to membership for all\, and hosting two free community events. \nGreenThumb is hosting a public Garden Interest Meeting and Volunteer Day with intent to triple the garden group’s membership\, strengthen community partnerships\, and establish a maintenance plan to support the garden’s future success. Come learn about grassroots community gardening and lend a hand! Bring water\, snacks\, and comfortable\, weather-appropriate clothing. Please note that some activities may involve lifting heavy material and moving\, bending\, and squatting for long periods. \nGroups of 5 or more can sign up by contacting the volunteer coordinator at Kyleen.Sanchez@parks.nyc.gov. \nThis event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support\, community gardens are centers of environmental justice\, ensuring that our city is fairer\, safer\, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.

The facilitators will model skills for holding space that gardeners can bring back to their groups to develop a practice for addressing and transforming conflict in the garden; this will be a confidential space that is not recorded. These sessions are held monthly\, and themes for discussion are based on issues brought forward at the prior session. Participants are welcome to attend them all or drop in for one. \nNYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. SUMMARY:Volunteer Workday: Pirate's Cove Garden
DESCRIPTION:GreenThumb community gardens are developed\, led\, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. \nPirate’s Cove Garden in Red Hook\, Brooklyn is stewarded by dedicated gardeners who are excited to bring in new members into the garden! The gardeners aim to foster deep community connections through growing food and plants together. \nPirate’s Cove Garden is partnering with GreenThumb to redesign areas of the garden to make way for more growing spaces and building new raised garden beds.
