SUMMARY:Seeding a Vibrant Afro–Indigenous Garden (East New York Farms)
DESCRIPTION:Gather with us in the garden for seed starting and transplanting alongside stories of Afro-Indigenous crops! During our time together we’ll connect and ground ourselves with a variety of seeds relevant to African and Indigenous diasporas. In tandem with a guided walkthrough of techniques and ways to troubleshoot\, participants will get hands-on practice to sow their own seedlings and transplant into garden beds. This session commences The Soul of Food\, a Deep Routes workshop series honoring the foodways that connect plants\, peoples\, and lands across Afro-Indigenous diasporas. \nNYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support\, community gardens are centers of environmental justice\, ensuring that our city is fairer\, safer\, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public. \n. \nLocation: East New York Farms\, 620 Schenck Avenue\, Brooklyn. Directions to this location \nCost: Free \nRegister Here \nEvent Organizer: Greenthumb\, ENY Youth Farm \nContact Number: 347.814.4244 \nContact Email: fabiola.caceres@parks.nyc.gov

SUMMARY:Death\, Decay\, and Decomposition (462 Halsey Community Garden)
DESCRIPTION:Come to 462 Halsey Community Farm to learn from Master Composter and deathworker\, Pista\, who will guide attendees through a discussion on death practice and cultural stories of transformations and how it all relates back to the compost pile. Attendees will then learn some basics of compost science and work with the garden’s 3-bin system to embody some of the learnings. \nWe live in a world where resurrection\, rebirth\, and transformation are not just myths and stories we share with each other\, but the actual reality of the Universe we are a part of. Composting is the process of transforming dying\, decomposing organic matter into new life. It is a reminder that death is not the final stage\, but rather a part of a cycle to begin again. \nLocation: 462 Halsey Community Garden\, 462 Halsey Street\, Brooklyn\, NY 11221\, Brooklyn. SUMMARY:Garden Workday And Trellis Build at Euclid 500 Community Garden
DESCRIPTION:GreenThumb community gardens are developed\, led\, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. \nEuclid 500 Community Garden is one of East New York’s largest gardens and a reflection of its local diverse community. The garden group enjoys growing a multitude of culturally-appropriate crops\, hosting community events\, and sharing delicious meals with one another. \nPlease join Euclid 500 Community Garden\, NYC Parks GreenThumb\, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Brooklyn Urban Gardeners (BUG) program for a hands-on volunteer day! Fall is a great time to harvest veggies\, prepare raised beds for winter\, remove weeds\, and build new trellises. This is a great opportunity to learn how to join a community garden while supporting an essential community space. Beginners are welcome! No prior experience necessary. Please wear comfortable\, weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note: Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending\, squatting\, and moving. \nFor information about group volunteering\, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program at gt.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov. \nThis event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support\, community gardens are centers of environmental justice\, ensuring that our city is fairer\, safer\, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
