DESCRIPTION:Join Jes Good Rewards Children’s Garden and NYC Parks GreenThumb for an Open House and hands-on volunteer day cleaning up the garden! \nSimply relax in the garden or get hands-on with gardening tasks like collecting debris\, removing weeds\, and reorganizing garden furniture. This is a great opportunity for new and experienced gardeners looking to get involved in community gardening. \nWe’ll provide all the tools\, training\, and guidance to ensure a productive and safe volunteer day! Please wear sturdy work shoes and weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note some tasks will involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending\, squatting\, and moving. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, we’ll reschedule this event to Sunday\, September 13th. \nFor information about group volunteering\, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program at gt.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov. \nThis event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. DESCRIPTION:Gather with us in the garden for seed starting and transplanting alongside stories of Afro-Indigenous crops! During our time together we’ll connect and ground ourselves with a variety of seeds relevant to African and Indigenous diasporas. In tandem with a guided walkthrough of techniques and ways to troubleshoot\, participants will get hands-on practice to sow their own seedlings and transplant into garden beds. This session commences The Soul of Food\, a Deep Routes workshop series honoring the foodways that connect plants\, peoples\, and lands across Afro-Indigenous diasporas. \nNYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City.
