DESCRIPTION:North Brooklyn Neighbors is teaming up with North Brooklyn Mutual Aid for a fun-filled event. \nWe will be using our new XRF machine to offer free soil testing. Bring a sample of your soil in a clear\, plastic sandwich bag with about 2 cups of soil. We will use our machine to test the heavy metal (i.e. lead) content of your soil and results will be available immediately. Information on safely dealing with high levels of lead in soil will be available in English\, Polish\, and Spanish. \nStop by to collect up to three 40-lb bag of compost made from NYC food scraps and yard waste. Register in advance for compost pickup\, only one sign-up per household please. \nNo registration required for soil testing.

The soil and groundwater at the Meeker Avenue Plume site are contaminated with chemicals harmful to human and environmental health. \nWhere is the Meeker Avenue Plume?\nThe area under investigation is in the Greenpoint/East Williamsburg area and spans several city blocks. \nWhat is a Community Advisory Group (CAG)?\nA CAG’s purpose is to provide a public forum for community members to present and discuss their needs and concerns related to the Superfund decision-making process.
