DESCRIPTION:Greenpoint Pilates Studio is excited to offer Pilates classes at the Greenpoint Library! \nWith a focus on full-body health\, these sessions will follow classical Pilates principles while blending contemporary movement concepts in a way that empowers all practitioners to feel strong\, knowledgeable\, and joyful in their bodies and movement. \nGreenpoint Pilates Studio offers privates\, duets\, and small group mat classes tailored for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. \nGreenpoint Pilates Studio was opened in 2022 by Allyn Wong (formerly at Zalla Pilates\,) a comprehensively and classically trained Pilates instructor that proudly calls Greenpoint home. \nOpen Level.  Yoga mats will be provided or feel free to bring your own. Please bring adequate sun protection!  Please note that this program will be moved to the second floor meeting room if there is inclement weather. \nRegistration will open 48hrs before the start of the event at 10am. Registrants will be notified via email if the program is cancelled due to inclement weather.

DESCRIPTION:Registration is required. 18+ \n***\nThis Pi Day (3/14)\, join Astronomy on Tap NYC and the Amateur Astronomer Association at the Greenpoint branch of the Brooklyn Public Library for an evening dedicated to the upcoming solar eclipse! \nHosted by Astronomy on Tap’s own Brian Levine (he/him) aka MC Tycho Brewhaha\, we will feature two presentations – one with information on how to safely watch an eclipse\, and a second about Einstein’s historic use of an eclipse in 1919 to further his research work! We’ll also have a game with prizes\, and everyone in attendance will receive a free pair of eclipse glasses! \nThis event is 18+ and note that while there will not be alcohol served at the event\, it may not be appropriate for children. When she isn’t live-streaming astronomy under the name “Kuiper Kat\,” she is taking it to the street with sidewalk astronomy sessions around the five boroughs\, and runs day-to-day operations for NASA’s Night Sky Network and the Amateur Astronomers Association here in NYC. \nChris Carr (he/him) is a PhD candidate at Columbia in Astronomy. He studies how galaxies like our Milky Way have formed and evolved over the history of the universe. He is a native of Cleveland\, OH and is excited to be returning home to view the solar eclipse over Lake Erie with his family!

DESCRIPTION:Join the Greenpoint Library for a sewing and fiber arts get together on the second Tuesday of each month. \nFor those with experience\, the library has sewing machines available – sign up for a sewing machine by emailing mrogers@bklynlibrary.org. If you own a sewing machine\, feel free to bring it with you to the library. It is suggested that you have some experience and bring a project to work on\, although skillsharing is encouraged! The library has sewing and cutting tools to share. \nIf sewing is not your specialty\, you may still join and work on a fiber arts craft project of your choice…there will be embroidery! \nThe art circle is capped at 15 people to begin with\, so please only register if you know you will be able to attend. What can we see in an urban environment with light pollution? Plenty! Join the Greenpoint Library for an evening of stargazing in our Rooftop Garden. We’ll learn how to find objects and identify them in the night sky. \nThe Rooftop Garden is elevator accessible. \nMoon Phase:  Last quarter 12:51am. One-half of the Moon appears to be illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon’s disk that is illuminated is decreasing.
