DESCRIPTION:Ages 5-8 \nJoin the Urban Park Rangers to reveal nature in the city all around you. \nTuesdays April 1\, 8\, 15\, 29 \nAccessibility \n\nWe are a 5-minute walk off the Nassau G stop. Our building entry\, elevator\, and bathroom are all ADA compliant.\nFor this workshop we will be in Eco Lab 1\, this room is brightly lit from a variety of fixtures and natural lighting.  Temperature varies.\nBeing a public space there is often overlapping noise within the building.  This workshop is geared towards kids which might include varying levels of sound depending on excitement or interest of group.  To reduce sensory input feel free to bring your own ear plugs or ask us if you’d like to borrow a sound filtering device.\nGrown-ups are encouraged to stay in the space to provide additional support to their child.  This may include help with motor skills or emotional support.

DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, Esther and her puppet\, Bernie the Bee\, will assist kids in creating bee\, bat\, and butterfly puppets and will teach about how these creatures pollinate many of the fruits and vegetables we eat\, and how important they are to maintaining healthy ecosystems worldwide. \n\nFamilies are encouraged to bring recycled toilet paper and paper towel rolls for the base of the puppets\, and any other recycled/upcycled materials such as colored paper\, fabric scraps\, beads\, sequins\, pipe cleaners\, etc… Some materials will also be provided. Kids will be encouraged to name their puppets and give them voices and personalities. \n\nThis program is for kids ages 4-8; parents may need to assist younger children. \n\nCheck out this Puppet Promo Reel to see examples of puppets made from recycled materials.\n\n\nThis program is part of the 2025 Early Childhood Symposium on Climate Justice in Early Childhood. We’ll read books around the theme of climate justice\, including an original book\, sing songs\, and then take action together for climate justice in NYS!  \nBPL librarians will be there to help you check out books about climate and the environment\, get a library card\, and learn more about library programs that support climate justice. \nBe sure to check out the all the Earth Rocks programming happening at the Brooklyn Children’s museum! \n \n\n  \n\n\n  \n\n\nClimate Families NYC is a grassroots\, mostly volunteer\, NYC-based group of kids and caregivers fighting to end fossil fuels and create a cleaner\, greener future for all. \n  \nThis program is scheduled during BCM’s Amazon Free Hours. \n\n\nClimate Storytimes are funded by the City’s First Readers Initiative of the NY City Council.

SUMMARY:Woodworking Workshop (BWAC)
DESCRIPTION:Working with Repurposed Wood \nThis workshop\, taught by Ryan Frank\, will be a hands-on introduction to woodworking taught using repurposed wood found on the streets and waterfront of Brooklyn. Attendees will learn practical woodworking skills using hand tools\, working with wood pieces found in nature (i.e. driftwood) and repurposed after human use (i.e. discarded furniture). Each participant will be able to choose pieces of wood that speak to them and that will be used as a raw material to work with during the class. \nWorkshop participants will be taught about wood removal (cutting and chiseling)\, wood marking (carving and engraving) and wood stabilization (sanding\, glueing and finishing techniques) and will be tasked with creating a small wood object using these processes. They will also learn about the material makeup of wood and how its lifecycle from nature to man made objects relates to environmental science and climate change. During the course of the workshop participants will create a unique wood sculpture that they’ll be able to take with them at the end of the class. \nRyan Frank is a visual artist and woodworker based in Brooklyn\, NY. He’s had solo exhibitions at the Invisible Dog Art Center\, the Mattatuck Museum\, the Children’s Museum of the Arts\, the Lilac Preservation Project\, Tremaine Gallery and Icehouse Project Space. Ryan has attended residencies at La Napoule Art Foundation\, Jentel Foundation\, Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts\, Brooklyn Studios for Dance\, SIM Iceland and the Wassaic Project. In addition to his art and woodworking practice Ryan is an ardent runner and practitioner of Tai Chi.  \nThere is limited capacity. Registration is required. \nThis is an off-site program\, located at BWAC in Red Hook.
