G, J, L & M Service Changes: North Brooklyn Train Alerts

These alerts are updated from the MTA Website as of December 4, 2018. This information is subject to change.

The L’Apocalypse is less than five months away, with the L Train shutting down on April 27, 2019. Knowing this, and having just survived the recent all-October-weekend shutdown of the L Train as well as several November weekend and weeknight shutdowns, we at Go Green BK want to highlight upcoming scheduling changes during the months leading into the shutdown, especially during this hectic month of December.

L TRAIN

Happily, no shutdowns are planned for the L Train in December 2018 or January 2019.

  • Monday, December 3 to Friday, December 7, from 11 AM to 3 PM (right in the middle of your day), the L Train will only run every 12 minutes between Myrtle-Wyckoff and Rockaway Parkway.
  • Tuesday, December 11 to Friday, December 14, from 11 AM to 3 PM, the L Train will only run 24 minutes between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Parkway. The train will also operate on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
  • Saturday, December 15  and Sunday, December 16, from 7 AM to 7 PM, the L Train will run every 8 minutes between 8 Avenue and Broadway Junction. During the same time frames, it will run every 24 minutes between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Parkway.
  • Monday, December 17 to Friday, December 21, from 11 AM to 3 PM the L Train will run every 12 minutes between Myrtle-Wyckoff and Rockaway Parkway.
  • Tuesday, December 25 (Christmas) and Tuesday, January 1, the L Train will operate on a Sunday schedule.
  • Every weekend in February 2019 will see an L shutdown, as well as three weekends in March 2019 and one in April 2019 (dates here).

G TRAIN

Unfortunately, the G Train will not be a reliable friend to us in December at all.

  • Saturday, December 1 to Monday, December 31, 2018:  NO southbound service at Greenpoint Avenue station.
  • Every Monday through Friday night until December 21, from 9:45 PM – 5 AM, G Train service between Bedford-Nostrand and Court Square will be replaced by a free shuttle bus.
  • Monday, December 3 to Monday, December 24:  NO service every single weekend (Friday at 9:45 PM to Monday at 5 AM) between Bedford-Nostrand in Brooklyn and Court Square in Queens. Free shuttle buses will be available.

Hopefully, the station improvements we are promised will be worth the temporary (major) inconvenience. According to the MTA, “The Greenpoint Avenue elevator project will install three new elevators and update station infrastructure such as stairs, handrails, turnstiles, powered gates and braille signage. An elevator will link the southern end of the station mezzanine to the sidewalk on the east side of Manhattan Avenue between Greenpoint Avenue and Kent Street. Two other elevators will provide access to the northbound and southbound platforms, respectively, from the station mezzanine. In addition, the station agent booth will be modified to a wheelchair user-friendly height and new sidewalk pedestrian ramps will be installed.”
The addition of elevators will be a great help to our neighbors with disabilities.
