A Primer for our 11th annual Go Green! BK Festival

Now in its 11th year, the GoGreen BK! Festival offers the North Brooklyn communities a chance to get out into our best and biggest park (McCarren Park), learn about the world that surrounds us, and explore how we might all help shoulder the task of caring for it.

This year’s event features vendors and exhibitors galore (75 and counting…), fabulous activities for kids and families, live music, and other assorted diversions to tickle your pleasure bone.

Some of the offerings include:

 

DANCE & FITNESS CLASSES
Join Greenpoint’s own Breakin’ Boundaries fitness studios for a day of exercise classes held on the lawn. All classes are free. Detailed Schedule as follows, along Bedford Avenue side of the park.

GREENCYCLE SWAP
Our seasonal swap goes green! Bring your clean and gently worn clothes, household items, books, and more to enter the community of objects available to be used for a swap. While a cash donation of $10 per family is appreciated, it is not necessary to browse the swap.  So bring something, take something, and see what treasures you can find! 12pm – 5pm on the central lawn. 

 

DEMONSTRATION GARDEN GREENROOF TOURS
If you’re like us, you wonder what it would take to install a green roof. But what’s the purpose of a green roof anyway? Join Newtown Creek Alliance on a tour of the McCarren Park Demonstration Garden Green Roof Project, we’ll show you two types of rooftop plantings. Tours are 30 minutes long. 2pm & 4pm, @ the Newtown Creek Alliance booth

 

 

 

FREE PREVENTIVE CARE CHECK UPS AT THE PARK
Bring your health insurance card and photo id, and sign up for a comprehensive diagnostic testing and screening at the park. Allergy, Cardiology, Neurology, Pulmonology and Radiology specialists will be available. The goal is to stay healthy through early detection tests.  4220 Associates will accept all insurance plans and there’ll be no cost to you.  Visit the Sound Cardiology booth and sign up.
