Hardly the Dog Days of Summer!

August in New York is characterized by the heat and most of all, humidity. While many of us seek refuge inside with fans and air conditioners, there are still plenty getting out into the world and growing our wonderful neighborhoods in Brooklyn and beyond.

94th Precinct Annual National Night Out!

We kick off August with a place for all to gather, eat, play, and dance at the National Night out. Meeting on Lorimer between Calyer and Meserole, this annual evening of police displays, refreshments, and music. This annual event brings free family fun to Brooklyn on Tuesday, August 1st from 5pm-9pm.

SummerStarz Movies: Kung Fu Panda 3

Transmitter Park is buzzing with energy this summer season! The SummerStarz series of movie screenings is free and fun for the whole family. Along the beautiful Greenpoint waterfront you’ll find picnic blankets and eager smiles as Kung Fu Panda 3 is projected on August 4th from 8pm to 11pm. Arrive early to claim a good spot, sit back, and enjoy the show!

NYC Summer Streets Festival

Summer Streets is an annual New York City tradition that spans almost seven miles of from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, along Park Avenue and Lafayette. Held from 7am-1pm on Saturdays: August 5th,12th, and 19th. Summer Streets encourages everyone to plan a trip along the length of this event. All activities along the path are free, and designed for the whole family to enjoy.

Family Fun Day Boat Tour

Looking for an adventure for your family? Go behind the scenes of the NY & NJ’s bustling waterfront on a narrated Hidden Harbor® “Maritime Scavenger Hunt” Tour August 5th from 2pm-4pm. Interactive for children who receive workbooks to check off cool things they see, this is a great event for learning and excitement.

Young Naturalists Program at McGolrick Park

On the south side of the pavilion in McGolrick Park on Tuesdays-Saturdays, you’ll find young eco leaders learning and having fun with The Horticultural Society of New York! As they look to start a major renovation of the park, classes are offered to children from 10-11am with educators present until 2pm. These days will be full of hands-on activities to help our communities’ children learn more about their open spaces.

SummerStarz Movies: Grease

Another beautiful night of movies on the lawn of Transmitter Park, August 11th welcomes Grease to the screen from 8pm-11pm. A wonderful use of our park, we encourage all families to arrive early, spread a blanket and enjoy themselves along the Greenpoint waterfront!

Community Clean Up Day

On August 12th from 10am-2pm, we welcome another Greenpoint Clean Up Day. At Broadway Stages of 520 Kingsland Ave, Curb Your Litter’s monthly clean ups have been a blast! Hidden Harbor Tour® of Brooklyn Waterfront Past & Present

Tour 8 miles of Brooklyn’s waterfront industry–past and present–from Newtown Creek to Sunset Park on August 12th from 6pm-8pm! The Harbor’s Upper Bay once bustling with maritime commerce and is fascinating to tour through today. This ride is fully narrated and begins at Pier 11, Wall Street, Manhattan.
