McCarren Park was packed with more than just Brooklyn residents enjoying last year’s festivities, and this upcoming festival set for Saturday, June 3rd, marks the 10th annual Go Green! Brooklyn Festival. The festival will occur at McCarren Park again and activities start around Noon.
This year’s festival event is set to feature art exhibitions, local businesses, exercise classes and, of course, an education in environment and sustainability discussing topics like transportation challenges in North Brooklyn and volunteer opportunities.
As part of new additions this year, the Go Green! Brooklyn Festival has partnered with Greenpoint Open Studios to serve as a public open-air studio. You can expect to see live art projects and artwork from amazing artists including: Alexander Diaz, Christine Coco Murray, Christopher Smith, Fluidtoons, Julia Brandao, Karly Restrepo, and Vanessa deStefano.

As a fun fact, Go Green Brooklyn’s Susan Anderson, who also serves as Executive Director of the North Brooklyn nonprofit Town Square, founded the Go Green! Greenpoint Festival 10 years ago as a chance to give everyone in the community an opportunity to enjoy a green educational day in the park. The name was changed to reflect the event’s growing popularity across the borough since the festival always welcomed everyone, regardless if they resided in Greenpoint.
“We really wanted a community event where groups of people, especially those who support green initiatives, could come together to share their messages and educational resources, recruit volunteers, or learn new ways to maintain a green lifestyle, all in a fun way” Susan Anderson said. “The Go Green! Brooklyn Festival draws so many people from all over now, and everyone working on the festival is thrilled to see the continued growth of the festival’s success and reach in the community.”
The event is vital to the community of Greenpoint and Williamsburg, and that it’s important that not only adults stay informed, but also that children in the neighborhood get a chance to learn about some of the ecological and environmental challenges that we all face.
