DESCRIPTION:Maintain Rain Gardens and Compost Giveaway! \n*** \nThis June NCA is hosting a series of events centered around the English Kills tributary of Newtown Creek aimed to engage the East Williamsburg and Bushwick communities with this inaccessible waterway and ways that the upland communities can help improve conditions in both the Creek and on local streets. \nThis event will include: \n\nCompost giveaway with BIG Reuse (first come\, first serve)\nIntroduction to the importance of green infrastructure (why it is good for water quality in Newtown Creek)\nHands-on maintenance of curbside rain gardens around Maria Hernandez Park with NYC DEP\nCleanup of sidewalk and street trash around Maria Hernandez Park\n\nThis event is run in partnership with Cleanup Bushwick Initiative\, NYC Department of Environmental Protection\, BIG Reuse\, and the offices of Councilmember Jennifer Gutierrez and Senator Julia Salazar. \n​​We will provide gloves\, tools\, safety vests\, and guidance on how to safely complete our tasks for the day. Before the event\, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form (Adult form here and Minor form here). \nMeetup Location: We will be meeting at Maria Hernandez Park. \nPlan ahead for the event: Please wear weather-appropriate clothes\, sturdy shoes\, and bring your own water bottle and sunscreen if need be. If you are unable to attend\, we ask you to please release your spot at least one day in advance.

The event is being run in conjunction with New York and Atlantic Railway\, who oversees freight operations on this active rail line.\n\nThis event is run in partnership with Cleanup Bushwick Initiative\, New York and Atlantic Railway\, BIG Reuse\, and the offices of Councilmember Jennifer Gutierrez and Senator Julia Salazar. \n​​We will provide gloves\, tools\, safety vests\, and guidance on how to safely complete our tasks for the day.
