SUMMARY:A Thousand and One Nights: Exploring Nocturnal Bird Migration (BK Central Library)
DESCRIPTION:For most of human existence\, the seasonal flight of migratory birds and insects has been hidden in plain sight in the night sky above us. The last century of technological advances accelerated our ability to see\, study\, and participate in this breathtaking effort millions of years in the making. All the while\, the landscapes to which these sojourners arrive are disappearing faster than ever. Join us as an urban birder\, rooftop farmer\, and author Annie Novak discusses her new work\, an illustrated narrative of the scientific understanding of nocturnal bird migration. Novak explores this emerging map with history\, humor\, curiosity\, and vibrant visual imagination\, prompting us to look at the skies above in a new light.  Learn about the new technology available to understand these incredible journeys\, and how to support birds along the way. \n\n\nAnnie Novak is the founder and director of Growing Chefs: Food Education from Field to Fork\, the Manager of the Edible Academy at the New York Botanical Garden; co-founder and farmer of the nation’s first green roof vegetable farm\, the Eagle Street Rooftop Farm in Greenpoint\, Brooklyn; and author of The Rooftop Growing Guide: How to Transform Your Roof into a Garden or Farm. She has served on the board of the American Bird Conservancy since 2018. Her words and work are widely featured in the New York Times\, Martha Stewart Living\, NPR\, and the September issue of Vogue\, among other publications. Her current writing and illustration work brings to light the nocturnal migration of birds. For more: annienovak.com and https://linktr.ee/heyannienovak \nAnnie Novak\, photo Naima Green
