DESCRIPTION:Join Prospect Park Alliance for the Labor Day School holiday in Prospect Park. \nNature Exploration 12–4 pm\nProspect Park Audubon Center\, Free\nJoin Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs on Thursdays and Fridays at the Prospect Park Audubon Center\, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation. \n\nLeaf Litter\, 12–3 pm:  Ever wondered what’s hiding beneath the leaves on the forest floor? Well\, there are seeds\, leaves\, insects\, and much more! Join us for our hands-on leaf litter activity to learn all about it.\nAnimal Encounter\, 2–3 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm\nTree ID Walk\, 3-4 pm: Join us as we delve into the wonder of nature! Are you curious about why and when trees shed their leaves? Gain hands-on experience in citizen science as we explore the Prospect Park environment and witness how changing temperatures affect the trees. We will provide you with a guide to help you record your observations. This program leaves the Audubon Center promptly at 3 pm.\n\nCarousel Rides\, 12–5 pm\nChildren’s Corner\, $3 per ride; $13 for a book of 5 tickets; Unlimited with Prospect Park Alliance Family Supporter membership or higher. Celebrate Labor Day with the park’s beloved Carousel. Join the Alliance at the Family Supporter level and your family (up to 4 people) will receive unlimited rides on the Carousel for a full year!

SUMMARY:Trees in the IBZ
DESCRIPTION:Join Newtown Creek Alliance and Trees New York to learn about and care for the street trees in the East Williamsburg part of the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone. \nMeetup Location: \nWe will meet by the Greenstreets triangle at the intersection of Johnson Ave and Morgan Ave. From there\, we’ll embark on a <1 mile walking tour through the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone (IBZ). \nThis event will include: \nA walking tour led by Samuel A. Bishop II\, Director of Education + Arborist from Trees New York\, who will discuss the lack of trees in the IBZ\, suitable locations for street trees\, and challenges street trees face in an industrial area. \nFollowing the tour\, we will be tending to street trees on Morgan Ave by performing tree bed maintenance\, which includes trash/weeds removal\, soil amendment\, and mulching. There will also be a small pruning demonstration by Trees New York to showcase the benefits of proper care for street trees by licensed Citizen Pruners. \nPlan ahead for the event: \nPlease bring comfortable closed-toe walking shoes\, a refillable water bottle\, and weather-appropriate clothing (including sun protection). We will provide cold water\, light snacks\, gloves\, vests\, and tools (note: no bathrooms are on site). If you are unable to attend\, we kindly request that you release your spot at least one day in advance. Before the event\, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form.

Sarah will also conduct a small pruning demonstration to show the benefits of proper care for street trees by licensed Citizen Pruners. NCA’s horticulturist\, Brenda Suchilt\, and Greenspace Steward\, Gus Perry\, will discuss rain gardens’ role in stormwater management and biodiversity. \nActivities will include removing trash and invasive weeds\, as well as planting native perennials from the Newtown Native Nursery. \nPlan ahead for the event: \nPlease wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes\, a refillable water bottle\, and weather-appropriate clothing (including sun protection). We will provide cold water\, light snacks\, gloves\, vests\, and tools. Note: there are restrooms on site of the Ten Eyck Playground.
