DESCRIPTION:Join Kensington Library and Solar One for our winter Interactive Environmental STEM Workshops series. \nThese 60-minute workshops aim to increase interest in STEM\, self-efficacy in regard to STEM skills\, expand knowledge on electricity generation\, energy efficiency\, renewable energies\, and issues around climate emergency. \nEach week of this 10 week series\, educators will cover a new topic: \nApr. 2 The Incredible Carbon Cycle \nApr. 9 Library Energy Audit \nApr. 16 Climate Advocacy Campaign \nApr. 23 Fun with Circuits \nApr. 30 Wind Turbine Design \nMay 7 Hydroelectric Challenge \nMay 14 Solar Field Study \nMay 21 Solar Ovens \nMay 28 Energy Storage \nJune 4 Solar Cars (Parents and caregivers must be present to help with this workshop) \nThis series is for children ages 8-12 and registration is required for each session. \nParents and caregivers must remain in the library during the workshops.

DESCRIPTION:Join our Kids Garden Club this growing season facilitated by our neighbors at the McCarren Park Demonstration Garden. \nEach workshop  will cover a different topic\, serving children of different ages. \nPlease make sure your child fits the age group for the workshop. As we will spend time in our rooftop Demonstration Garden\, parents and caregivers are required to stay at the workshop. May 7\, 3:30-4:30pm – Gardening for the Senses  – 4-10 years old. \nTues. May 21\, 3:30-4:30pm – Nature Cycles in our Urban Ecosystem – 6-10 years old \nTue. June 4\, 3:30-4:30pm – Life Cycle of a Flower – 6-10 years old \nSat. June 15\, 10:30-11:30am Urban Ecosystem Scavenger Hunt – 5-10 years old (Offsite at McCarren Demonstration Garden\, 457 Leonard St. BK\, 11222) \nTues. June 25\, 3:30-4:30pm –  Cooking from the Garden –  8-12 years old \n  \nThe McCarren Park Demonstration Garden is an initiative of North Brooklyn Mutual Aid which grows fresh food for donation to the neighborhood’s free fridges. Since 2022\, the garden has provided 1500 pounds of produce for their neighbors. The McCarren Demo Garden also acts as a community hub for eco education and food justice.
