SUMMARY:Beach Grass Planting at Floyd Bennett Field
DESCRIPTION:Help care for native plants for the Founder Seed Program with the Greenbelt Native Plant Center! The Founder Seed Program aims to grow native seed\, sourced from local populations\, for restoration projects across the city. At this event\, we will be planting Beachgrass at Floyd Bennett Field. Tools will be provided. No prior knowledge about native plants or farming is required. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes\, long pants\, and clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. To sign up a group of 10 or more volunteers please reach out to stewardship@parks.nyc.gov. DESCRIPTION:Join the NYC Parks Stewardship team to plant beachgrass (Ammophila breviligulata) at Coney Island Creek! Ammophila is the dominant coastal grass in our region\, helping to build and stabilize front dunes. Because the grass primarily spreads by rhizome\, we harvest bare-root plant material from the Greenbelt Native Plant Center production plots to replant into dune restoration projects. Volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty\, close-toed shoes\, and warm layers. This event has been funded in part by NYC Service. \nLocation: Coney Island Creek Park\, Brooklyn.
