SUMMARY:Nothing To Watch Dance Performance (Domino Park)
DESCRIPTION:2 Dates: \n\nSaturday\, Sep 26\, 2026\, 7 PM to 8 PM\nSunday\, Sep 27\, 2026\, 7 PM to 8 PM\n\n. \nIn this site-specific piece\, Ogawa invites the audience to engage with and share a meditative mindset throughout performance. \n\n\n\n\nDrawing from her research into meditation and embodied experience\, Ogawa considers how bodies share space in outdoor environments while navigating both inner experience and the world around them. The performance invites audiences to reflect on a different relationship to time\, space\, and attention – one that is open\, non-hierarchical\, and shared across bodies. \nJapanese tea will be provided by Haco. \n\n\n\n\nMaho Ogawa / suisoco\nAfter moving from Tokyo to the U.S. to study postmodern dance\, Ogawa became strongly influenced by 1960s American visual artists—particularly the Light and Space movement. This influence helped her connect minimalist aesthetics with her cultural grounding in Zen philosophy. As part of her research exploring Zen philosophy as a choreographic form\, Ogawa began developing meditation-based practices with five dancers to create a “non-hierarchical sense of time and space” in the studio\, seeking to connect her inner experience of meditation with a choreographic score shared across bodies\, each given equal importance. \nMaho’s works have been shown in Korea\, Japan\, and in the U.S.\, including Princeton University\, Invisible Dog Art Center\, JACK\, Movement Research at the Judson Church\, and Center for Performance Research\, to name a few. Her project was supported by Foundation for Contemporary Arts\, Culture Push\, the Emily Harvey Foundation\, Leimay\, Target Margin\, New Dance Alliance\, MOtiVE\, and the Movement Research Artist-In-Residence program. This Nothing to Watch series has been shared at Judson Church\, Gotham Park & Domino Park\, with more sites to come.
