DESCRIPTION:Come join us for Open Hours at Kingsland Wildflowers — learn about the green roofs and native plants while enjoying a scenic view! \n\n\n\n\nOpen Hours at Kingsland Wildflowers — an opportunity for the public to learn about the green roofs\, the native plants present\, and the Newtown Creek while enjoying the golden hour from our scenic wildflower meadows. Open hours are free and open to the public and will take place every Friday from April 24 to June 26\, 2026\, weather-permitting. \nFor the 2026 Open Hours season\, our Newtown Native Nursery will be open\, allowing visitors to explore (and purchase) native plants that we grow on site\, which can be a great addition for any greenspace you may have or be involved in! \nThis is a family friendly event\, kindly keep in mind that we use our green roofs as an educational resource\, we prefer that furry friends stay at home. NCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the space\, the ecological benefits of green roofs\, and talk about our current activities around Newtown Creek! DESCRIPTION:Come out and clean your local shoreline during this annual day of service for the Hudson at 100 locations! \nEach year on the first Saturday in May\, more than 2\,000 volunteers come together across hundreds of miles of shoreline in New York City and the Hudson Valley for a day of service for the Hudson River. Volunteers clean up tons of trash\, plant trees\, and remove invasive plant species. \nOver 14 years\, Sweep volunteers have completed 1\,463 projects and removed 396 tons of debris\, including 2\,352 tires\, and planted or maintained thousands of trees and shrubs. Once-neglected areas have gained year-round stewards\, and rivers and creeks are better for it. \nVolunteers must register in advance. DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants at Ridgewood Reservoir!\n\n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \n\n\n

This is a part of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Waterfront Workouts series\, offering free weekly workouts from May through September. \nZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music\, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic\, exciting\, effective fitness program. The routines feature aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Note this class takes place on a paved area – sneakers are highly recommended! \nAdvance registration is highly encouraged but walk-ups welcome as capacity allows. The property at 124 Greenpoint Avenue contains a historic firehouse. The project proposes to retain the front portion of this building and undertake restoration and repair of the historic façade. A horizontally oriented rear addition is proposed\, set back so that it is not visible from the public right-of-way. The property at 122 Greenpoint Avenue currently contains a one-story commercial structure\, which is proposed to be demolished in its entirety. In its place\, a new six-story building will be constructed. The design incorporates a setback at the fifth floor to maintain the predominant street wall.
