DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

There will be some stairs involved and uneven ground. Bathrooms will be available at multiple locations. \nNo prior birding experience necessary. A limited number of binoculars will be available so bring your own if you have them. This event is first-come\, first-serve with 15 spots available. DESCRIPTION:Join Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs for Mid-Winter Recess at the Prospect Park Audubon Center\, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation. \nNature Around Us\, 12–3 pm:  Enjoy different seasonal discovery stations and nature themed activities that will introduce you to the plants\, insects and animals that call the park home. The Lake and Lullwater are home to many plants and animals. Help us to test the water quality and investigate pond samples that are filled with living organisms. \nAnimal Encounter\, 2–3 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm. \nWinter Wilderness Walk\, 3-4 pm: Join the Prospect Park Alliance and learn about the Great Backyard Bird Count and search for your favorite “backyard bird”.  Find woodpeckers\, chickadees\, and nuthatches eating from feeders along Prospect Park’s nature trails.

Storytime is typically about a half hour long. \nWalk-ups only; we do our utmost to accommodate as many walk-ups as space allows. \nThe Environmental Education Center is still encouraging all visitors to wear a mask to help protect others.
