Join us every week from August 5 to September 10\, Tuesdays from 10 AM-12 PM and Wednesdays from 2-4 PM. All ages are welcome to this free drop-in program. \n  \nFraming Nature: Tue 8/19\, 10 AM-12 PM & Wed 8/20\, 2 PM-4 PM \nMake your own quadrat\, which is a simple\, square measuring tool that is used by scientists to visually estimate and sample the plants and life under it. Learn about how Brooklyn Bridge Park uses our quadrats to collect data in our different habitats\, and then put your own quadrat to use to help guide your own exploration of the park. \n  \nPlankton Party: Tue 8/26\, 10 AM-12 PM & Wed 8/27\, 2 PM-4 PM \nLearn all about the plankton in our waters as you look at both plantlike (phytoplankton) and animal-like (zooplankton) plankton under a microscope. Then go big and make giant plankton wire sculpture mobiles inspired by these tiny\, drifting aquatic organisms. \n  \nWhat’s in Bloom: Tue 9/2\, 10 AM-12 PM & Wed 9/3\, 2 PM-4 PM \nDid you know that Brooklyn Bridge Park is post-industrial park\, meaning that all of the beautiful plants and nature that you see has been planted over the past 15 years? See what the park looked like before it was a park through historical photos. Get up close to the stunning flowers that can be found on Pier 1: Count their petals and make your symmetrical floral bouquet with paint. \n  \nSpecies Spotlight: Crab: Tue 9/9\, 10 AM-12 PM & Wed 9/10\, 2 PM-4 PM \nGet up close and meet some of the crabs found in the East River through our touch tank. Learn about these crustaceans and the types of crabs that can be found on our shores. Look through a microscope at crab eggs and larvae (zoea)\, then make your own crab claw and test its ability to pick up objects.

The first Thursday of each month will be the basics of a sewing machines for those that want to learn about the machine itself. The rest of the classes will be a different topic of sewing basics\, such as\, reading pdf sewing patterns and how to put them together\, zippers and buttons\, and pleats and darts. DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to bring back our Autumn Evenings and give the community Newtown Native Nursery hours to amplify your greenspace in the Fall! \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nCome join NCA every Friday from September 5 to October 17 to see the green roofs at Kingsland Wildflowers and explore (and purchase) plants from our Native Plant Nursery. \nThe event’s allow the public to learn about the green roofs and native plants\, as well as experiencing the Newtown Creek during the golden hour from our scenic wildflower meadows. This is a family friendly event\, kindly keep in mind that we use our green roofs as an educational resource\, we prefer that furry friends stay at home. NCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the space\, the ecological benefits of green roofs\, and talk about our current activities around Newtown Creek! \nThe event is free and open to all. The main green roofs can be accessed via elevator\, however the nursery area is not ADA accessible (small staircase). \nCheck out the various native plants that we have been growing on site; purchases can also be made online in advance!

Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Free public kayaking at Brooklyn Bridge Park is offered throughout the summer on Wednesday and Thursday evenings\, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Presented in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse. \nAll levels are welcome including first-time kayakers — life vests and all equipment provided\, as well as instruction. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. Advanced registration required\, providing 20 minute timed slots\, which open on a rolling basis 2 weeks out from each date. DESCRIPTION:Free \n\n\n\n\nCity Parks Foundation is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the world-renowned children’s story Pippi Longstocking by the legendary Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. To honor this milestone\, our traveling marionette theater\, the PuppetMobile\, will present Pippi\, a fresh retelling of the classic Swedish tale. \nThe production features nearly two dozen\, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers. In addition to the brilliant artistry of the production\, kids and families will enjoy the incredible adventures of quick-witted and super-strong Pippi as she overcomes bullies\, all while fending off unnecessary social conventions. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the Consulate General of Sweden in New York.
