DESCRIPTION:North Brooklyn Neighbors is teaming up with North Brooklyn Mutual Aid for a fun-filled event. \nWe will be using our new XRF machine to offer free soil testing. Bring a sample of your soil in a clear\, plastic sandwich bag with about 2 cups of soil. We will use our machine to test the heavy metal (i.e. lead) content of your soil and results will be available immediately. Information on safely dealing with high levels of lead in soil will be available in English\, Polish\, and Spanish. \nStop by to collect up to three 40-lb bag of compost made from NYC food scraps and yard waste. Register in advance for compost pickup\, only one sign-up per household please. \nNo registration required for soil testing.

DESCRIPTION:Dodge YMCA fitness Zumba classes are so much fun you’ll forget that you’re burning calories. ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music\, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic\, exciting\, effective fitness program. This class features aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Sneakers are recommended! Classes run on Mondays at 6:00 PM\, May 1 through September 25 at the Pier 3 Plaza. \n\n\n\nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. He has written over a dozen books about the environment\, including his first\, The End of Nature\, published in 1989\, and his latest book is The Flag\, the Cross\, and the Station Wagon: A Graying American Looks Back at his Suburban Boyhood and Wonders What the Hell Happened. \nElizabeth Kolbert is a Pulitzer Prize-winning Journalist and author of Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man\, Nature\, and Climate Change and Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future\, and has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1999. Previously\, she worked at the Times\, where she wrote the Metro Matters column and served as the paper’s Albany bureau chief. In 2010\, she received the National Magazine Award for Reviews and Criticism. Here at the park\, we think public spaces can be spaces for engagement\, continued education\, and discussion; “Nature & Urbanism” is part of an initiative to introduce more programming that helps adults learn & grow beyond the classroom. \n  \nCities have never been neutral spaces. They are in constant flux and the very embodiment of politics in action. While we’re used to seeing cities as sites of resistance and revolutionary possibility (e.g. Stonewall\, Black Lives Matter\, Anti-War protests)\, we tend to overlook the politics of the built environment itself. \nWhat makes a space natural or unnatural? And how do you know nature when you see it?
