SUMMARY:Volunteer Landscaping and Cleanup at the Ridgewood Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants at Ridgewood Reservoir!\n\n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \n. \nOctober to December 2026 \nSunday\, October 4\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, October 25\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, November 8\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, December 6\, 10 AM to 12 PM \n\n\n

SUMMARY:BQE Central Events
DESCRIPTION:The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) is an essential component of the region’s transportation network. It not only serves to connect Brooklyn with key access points in Manhattan\, Queens\, and on Staten Island\, but it also carries regional trucks and other traffic\, keeping this traffic off local Brooklyn streets. \nBQE Central is the approximately 1.5-mile City-owned section of the BQE (Interstate-278) between Atlantic Avenue and Sands Street in Brooklyn. This section includes multiple bridge structures – including the historic 0.4-mile-long “Triple Cantilever”. The BQE Central Project focuses on rehabilitating the structure to keep it safe for travelers. \nNYC DOT is proposing to rehabilitate BQE Central to address aging infrastructure\, improve safety and reliability\, and maintain this important connection for people and goods moving through Brooklyn and the region. \nThe project is preparing to enter the City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) process. Through the CEQR process\, NYC DOT will study the project’s potential environmental effects and provide opportunities for public input. \n. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVirtual Q&A Sessions\n\n\n\nVirtual Q&A #1\, Tuesday\, October 6\, 2026\, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration: bit.ly/bqecentral-oct6\nVirtual Q&A #2\, Thursday\, October 22\, 2026\, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration: bit.ly/bqecentral-oct22\nBQE Central Info Session\, Thursday\, October 29\, 2026\, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.\, Brooklyn Borough Hall\, 209 Joralemon St\, Brooklyn\, NY 11201\, Registration: bit.ly/bqecentral-oct29\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPop-Up Events\nNYC DOT will also host in-person pop-up events where members of the public can speak with project team members.
