BombaYo stirs the soul in a way that only music and dance can to uplift and celebrate our deeper humanity. BombaYo creates an intergenerational and participatory experience that honors people of all ages and abilities.

SUMMARY:Cyanotype Workshop (Transmitter Park)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a solar art class outside at Transmitter Park. \nHave you ever seen a blue photograph? If you lived in the 1800s you would have. By placing objects on special paper and exposing the paper to sunlight\, early photographers created blue images\, called cyanotypes or sun prints. Join us together with artist and photographer Amy Williams for an outdoor printmaking workshop using native foliage. \n\nNo experience necessary\nYou will take home a frameable print\nAll supplies will be provided\nAges 12+\n\nMeet at the Greenpoint entrance at the Friends’ table. \n*Registration required. \nAmy Williams is a photographer and mixed media artist living and working in Greenpoint\, Brooklyn. Trained in traditional photographic methods\, Williams continues to embrace these techniques despite the digital revolution of the photography world. Her photographs have been featured in the French art magazine Frog\, as well as the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. Williams has exhibited extensively at 440 Gallery in Brooklyn and has been included in two group shows at Galerie de Multiples in Paris\, France. Her work is in corporate and private collections in New York\, Washington D.C.\, Seattle\, Paris and Saudi Arabia. \n(Rain date: Saturday\, July 15 -10am – 12pm)

SUMMARY:Volunteer Landscaping and Cleanup at the Ridgewood Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants in the pollinator garden! \nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir.

We will use our machine to test the heavy metal (i.e. lead) content of your soil and results will be available immediately. Information on safely dealing with high levels of lead in soil will be available in English\, Polish\, and Spanish. \nStop by to collect up to three 40-lb bag of compost made from NYC food scraps and yard waste. Register in advance for compost pickup\, only one sign-up per household please. \nNo registration required for soil testing.
