SUMMARY:Lighthouse Weekend Signature Boat Tour to Sandy Hook and Twin Lights
DESCRIPTION:Lighthouse Weekend Signature Tour to Sandy Hook & Twin Lights\nSunday\, August 3 @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm\nPopularly regarded as NLM’s “SIGNATURE TOUR” this exciting boat tour\, familiarizes passengers with (9) key lighthouses that facilitate safe passage from the Atlantic Ocean into Lower New York Harbor. The series will be NARRATED by Wade R. Goria. Wade is a National Lighthouse Museum historian\, author\, and former New York University professor. \nWe explore a total of NINE LIGHTHOUSES: Battery Weed Light located atop Fort Wadsworth\, the Coney Island Lighthouse\, West Bank and Romer Shoals Lighthouses\, the Sandy Hook Light\, The Twin Lighthouses of Navesink at Atlantic Highlands\, the Staten Island Rear Range at Richmond Hill\, the New Dorp Light\, and the Elm Tree Beacon at Miller Field\, also located in New Dorp.\nAfter sailing past historic Forts Wadsworth and Hamilton at the Narrows\, we head under the Verrazano Bridge passing the former Quarantine stations of Hoffman and Swinburne Islands. \nEnroute to the Sandy Hook Light\, situated near the tip of an eight mile spit at Fort Hancock\, a coastal defense base that once guarded the approach of NY Harbor\, we learn about the role that this proud and historic beacon has played on behalf of NYC’s maritime trade and its commerce over the centuries. \nCruising on the Ambrose Channel\, Sandy Hook Bay and the Shrewsbury River we journey along the ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS past the towns of Keyport and Leonardo\, home to Naval Weapons Station Earle and the world’s longest pier as well as Mount Mitchill\, the highest point on the Atlantic coast from Maine to the Yucatan in Mexico. The Atlantic Highlands is home to one of the most spectacular lighthouses in America: the Navesink Twin Light Station\, the very first structure in America witnessed by immigrants following an Atlantic crossing. \nUpon our return along the Ambrose Channel into Lower New York Bay\, we head near to the Coney Island Lighthouse at Norton’s Point in Seagate\, Coney Island\, where famed Keeper Frank Schubert\, NYC’s last Light Keeper\, resided for 40 years. \nTickets are non-refundable. \nAdults $65 Children Under 12 $45 \nLighthouse Boat Tours commence rain or shine . info@lighthousemuseum.org \nThe boat leaves from the National Lighthouse Museum Admission to Museum is FREE for Boat Tour ticket holders. Please call the museum at 718-390-0040 for further information if needed. \nNational Lighthouse Museum is located at: 200 The Promenade at Lighthouse Point (adjacent to the FREE Staten Island Ferry) St. George\, Staten Island\, NY 10301

SUMMARY:Summer Music Series in Bushwick Inlet Park 2025: Carol Sudhalter Quintet
DESCRIPTION:For the 5th summer FBIP brings music to the beautiful waterfront in Bushwick Inlet Park with our Summer Music in BIP 2025 series. Come take in a skyline river sunset on the 86 Kent shoreline esplanade while absorbing great musical vibes from multiple genres. \nThe Jazz Foundation of America presents Carol Sudhalter Quintet. \nFlautist and saxophonist Carol Sudhalter didn’t take up music until her third year of college (biology major)\, but hasn’t let up since. She was the first graduate of Smith College to become a professional jazz musician\, and in 1978 moved from Boston to New York City to join the all-women Latin band\, Latin Fever. In 1986 she founded the 13-piece Astoria Big Band\, and later founded several performance initiatives in Queens\, including the Athens Square Park Jazz Mondays series\, Astoria / LIC Waterfront Jazz Festival\, and Sunset Jazz Concerts in Ralph Demarco Park. Sudhalter has worked with many notable artists including Etta Jones\, Jimmy McGriff\, Sarah McLawler\, Henry Butler\, Chico Freeman\, Jimmy Cobb and Jason Marsalis. She currently holds court as the intrepid leader of Flushing Town Hall’s Louis Armstrong Legacy Jam. \nFriends of Bushwick Inlet Park is sponsored\, in part\, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs\, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council. \nA big thanks goes out this year’s sponsors & supporters: \n1 Northside Piers \n2 Northside Piers \n25 Kent \nBrooklyn Arts Council \nGreenpoint Williamsburg Youth Soccer League \nJazz Foundation of America \nNYC Department of Parks and Recreation \nNew York State Council on the Arts
