The family-friendly event will take visitors on a journey of the African Diaspora that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the people of Africa and African descendant cultures. The theme for this Juneteenth celebration at Lefferts Historic House is “Rise in Spirit.” \nEnjoy performances by African dancers and drummers from the Asase Yaa Youth Ensemble\, IET Band jazz quartet\, tap dancer Joseph Webb\, the St. Paul’s Baptist Church gospel choir and theatrical readings by Sharon Gordon. Alliance educators will also provide cooking demonstrations\, historic games and more. \nThe Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to its core tenets to enrich\, educate and entertain. They aspire to empower and strengthen youth by offering them an opportunity to learn\, study and experience the history\, movement and beauty of African Diaspora dance\, music and culture at its highest level. They are entering their third decade\, and oversee a School of the Arts\, the Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater\, an award-winning professional dance ensemble\, a Children’s Summer Art Camps\, and an Arts Outreach program that services public and charter schools throughout the greater New York area. Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation also curates original programming and produces an array of special events and concerts \nThe Juneteenth celebration is part of ReImagine Lefferts\, an initiative funded through a Humanities in Place grant from the Mellon Foundation that is re-envisioning the mission and programming of the museum to explore the stories of resistance and resilience by the Indigenous people of Lenapehoking\, whose unceded ancestral lands the park and house rests upon\, and the Africans who were enslaved by the Lefferts family. The event is also funded in part through support by NYU Brooklyn.

DESCRIPTION:Join for our new Core and Flexibility Training class with Dodge YMCA to improve strength\, tone\, and flexibility. The goal of this class is to grow your confidence\, improve your connection with your body\, and push past your perceived limits. The class is a combination of core and flexibility exercises designed to build a strong foundation of movement capacity. Classes run on Sundays\, May 7-September 24\, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Pier 6 Lawn. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own mats; an extremely limited number will be available to borrow from Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy staff. \nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. DESCRIPTION:Nature Exploration\, 12–4 pm\nProspect Park Audubon Center\, Free \nJoin Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center\, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation. \n\nNature Around Us\, 12–3 pm:  Discover how nature recycles by learning about the fascinating cycle of decomposition in our urban forest.\nAnimal Encounter\, 2–3 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists to learn more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm.\nFamily Bird Walk\, 3–4 pm: Prospect Park is a stopping point for hundreds of bird species each year! Join us as we search for these amazing creatures and other natural wonders around the park. Binoculars and bird guides are provided. This program leaves the Audubon Center promptly at 3 pm.\n\nCarousel Rides\, 12–5 pm \nChildren’s Corner\, $3 per ride\, $13 for a book of 5 tickets\, Free with Prospect Park Alliance Family Supporter membership or higher.  \nCelebrate Juneteenth with a ride on Prospect Park’s beloved 1912 Carousel. \nJoin the Alliance at the Family Supporter level or above and enjoy unlimited free rides!

SUMMARY:Zumba with Dodge YMCA (BK Bridge Park)
DESCRIPTION:Dodge YMCA fitness Zumba classes are so much fun you’ll forget that you’re burning calories. ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music\, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic\, exciting\, effective fitness program. This class features aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Sneakers are recommended! Classes run on Mondays at 6:00 PM\, May 1 through September 25 at the Pier 3 Plaza. \n\n\n\nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. DESCRIPTION:For the 2023 International Day of Yoga\, we invite you to come practice with us and honor the roots of yoga. \nAbhaya Yoga will provide an inspirational evening with an all-levels yoga class and meditation\, accompanied by live music. The yoga class is accessible for any body type and background. Class will be accessible for all\, and all are welcome\, no prior experience necessary.  Come with an open mind and heart\, as we celebrate the transformative practice of yoga and the community it enables us to create. \nThe class will be led by Tara Glazier (Lead Teacher & Owner\, Abhaya Yoga) and and Kevin Nathaniel (Musician). \nAdditionally\, please bring your own mats; a limited number of mats will be available to borrow. This event is free\, but we do require all participants to fill out a fitness waiver.
