Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \n. \nWhat to Bring:\nBinoculars if you have them\, comfortable walking shoes\, water\, and weather-appropriate clothing. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. \nPlease Note:\nPets are not permitted on this outing. Depending on attendance\, participants may be divided into smaller groups. Outings are held rain or shine unless severe weather makes conditions unsafe. \nRoute Description:\nThis outing moves at a relaxed pace with frequent stops to observe birds. DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants at Ridgewood Reservoir!\n\n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. DESCRIPTION:September 2026 to May 2027 \nMeeting Location: Audubon Center at the Boathouse\nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re new to birding or looking to build your skills\, this introductory outing is a great way to explore Prospect Park and learn about the birds that visit throughout the year. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn birding basics and search for the dozens of species found in the park across all seasons. \nAll ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is required. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \n. \nWhat to Bring:\nBinoculars if you have them\, comfortable walking shoes\, water\, and weather-appropriate clothing. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. \nPlease Note:\nPets are not permitted on this outing. Depending on attendance\, participants may be divided into smaller groups. Outings are held rain or shine unless severe weather makes conditions unsafe. \nRoute Description:\nThis outing moves at a relaxed pace with frequent stops to observe birds. Routes may vary from week to week depending on bird activity and park conditions. Participants can expect paved paths\, dirt trails\, grassy areas\, slight inclines\, and occasional steps. The group will cover approximately 1.5–2 miles.
