J’Ouvert was started by formerly enslaved Africans in the predominantly French speaking colonies\, when they began participating in the pre-Lenten festivities of the ruling class. In Trinidad and Tobago\, the tradition was further solidified through the Canboulay riots in 1881. DESCRIPTION:Join for our new Core and Flexibility Training class with Dodge YMCA to improve strength\, tone\, and flexibility. The goal of this class is to grow your confidence\, improve your connection with your body\, and push past your perceived limits. The class is a combination of core and flexibility exercises designed to build a strong foundation of movement capacity. Classes run on Sundays\, May 7-September 24\, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Pier 6 Lawn. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own mats; an extremely limited number will be available to borrow from Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy staff. \nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join.
