SUMMARY:Bird Watching/ Observación de Aves at Ridgewood Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Rescheduled from May 24\, 2026\nJoin author and naturalist Heather Wolf for a bird walk at the Ridgewood Reservoir. With the weather turning it’s a great time to come out and enjoy the reservoir and see some birds! 🐦🕊️ \nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on 58-2 Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \nThis event will be in both spanish and english. \n\n\n.

Participants can learn basketball basics as head coaches lead participants through drills and games. Free clinics are held on Saturday mornings from June through August (excluding holiday weekends). \nThe first hour\, 9-10am\, will be for beginner players who are brand new to the sport. Here we will teach the very basic fundamentals of the game\, the rules of the game\, and getting acclimated to having a ball in each player’s hands. \nThe second hour\, 10-11am\, will be for advanced beginners to intermediate players who have played a little bit more basketball experience. Emphasis will be on ball handling\, passing\, shooting form\, defense\, and learning to love the game. \nRegistration is free and sign-up is by-the-week; advance registration encouraged but walk-ups accomodated as space allows. Full details at brooklynbridgepark.org. \nHappens on the following Dates:\nJun 6\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nJun 13\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nJun 20\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nJun 27\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nJul 11\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nJul 18\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nJul 25\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nAug 1\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nAug 8\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nAug 15\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nAug 22\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nAug 29\, 2026\, 9:00am to 11:00am Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)

SUMMARY:Bat Walk at the Ridgewood Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Join wildlife scientist Nic Comparato to observe and learn about bats at the Ridgewood Reservoir. There are over 1\,400 species of these winged mammals worldwide. Come discover which ones live at the Reservoir as well as learn about other nocturnal animals. \n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir\, nestled in Highland Park\, is a 50+ acre ecological oasis that was once a high quality water supply built by the independent City of Brooklyn in 1858. Since decommissioning\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession! \nPlease note: the NYPD generally closes the parking lot around 9 pm and while this event is scheduled to end around 8:30 pm we encourage you to use street parking or public transportation for this event. Thank you!
