Puppets like Oliver Owl\, Bernie the Bee\, and Sustainable Sammy teach about the importance of trees to our ecosystems\, how bees (and bats) pollinate many foods we eat\, and how we can protect our oceans from plastics and contamination. Kids and their caregivers will sing and dance while learning about sustainability! DESCRIPTION:Join us for Open Hours at Kingsland Wildflowers — an opportunity for the public to learn about the green roofs\, the native plants present\, and the Newtown Creek while enjoying the golden hour from our scenic wildflower meadows. Open hours are free and open to the public and will take place every Friday from April 18 to June 27\, 2025\, weather-permitting. \nFor the 2025 Open Hours season\, we are excited to also be opening our Newtown Native Nursery\, allowing visitors to explore (and purchase) native plants that we grow on site\, and can be a great addition for any greenspace you may have or be involved in! \nThis is a family friendly event\, kindly keep in mind that we use our green roofs as an educational resource\, we prefer that furry friends stay at home. NCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the space\, the ecological benefits of green roofs\, and talk about our current activities around Newtown Creek! This is a rain or shine event. \nVolunteers will meet outside of the IKEA Entrance at 1 Beard St\, Brooklyn\, NY 11231. Parking is available in the IKEA parking lot. \nEach year on the first Saturday in May\, more than 2\,500 volunteers come together across hundreds of miles of shoreline in New York City and the Hudson Valley for a day of service for the Hudson River. Volunteers clean up tons of trash\, plant trees\, and remove invasive plant species. Come out and clean your local shoreline during this annual day of service for the Hudson! Read more about the project and our locations across the Hudson Valley and NYC by visiting Riverkeeper.org/sweep \nOver 13 years\, Sweep volunteers have completed 1\,199 projects and removed 355 tons of debris\, including 2\,089 tires\, and planted or maintained thousands of trees and shrubs. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

This is a rain or shine event. \nVolunteers will meet at Bushwick Inlet Park\, 86 Kent Ave\, Brooklyn\, NY 11249\, between the soccer field and the East River. There is street parking but it is easier to arrive by bike\, public transit or ferry! Leave ample time to find street parking as it can be competitive. \nEach year on the first Saturday in May\, more than 2\,500 volunteers come together across hundreds of miles of shoreline in New York City and the Hudson Valley for a day of service for the Hudson River. Volunteers clean up tons of trash\, plant trees\, and remove invasive plant species. Come out and clean your local shoreline in Saratoga County during this annual day of service for the Hudson!
