SUMMARY:15th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep - Valentino Pier Park Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join Outdoor Service Guides Brooklyn Troop 651 Greenwood\, Resilient Red Hook\, Riverkeeper\, and Parks and Trails New York (PTNY) for a cleanup project at Valentino Pier Park from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for the 15th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep. This location is one of a select number of official dual Riverkeeper Sweep + I Love My Park Day sites\, bringing volunteers together to protect our waterways while caring for our parks and trails. This is a rain or shine event. \nVolunteers will meet at Valentino Pier Park\, 104 Ferris Street\, Brooklyn\, NY 11231. Meet at the flagpole in the park lawn. Street parking is available\, but we recommend you to come early to find a spot. \nWe recommend all Sweep volunteers to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, insect repellent\, work gloves and hand sanitizer. \nEach year on the first Saturday in May\, more than 2\,000 volunteers come together across hundreds of miles of shoreline in New York City and the Hudson Valley for a day of service for the Hudson River. Volunteers clean up tons of trash\, plant trees\, and remove invasive plant species.\nOver 14 years\, Sweep volunteers have completed 1\,463 projects and removed 396 tons of debris\, including 2\,352 tires\, and planted or maintained thousands of trees and shrubs. Once-neglected areas have gained year-round stewards\, and rivers and creeks are better for it. \nVolunteers must register in advance. Have fun and help take care of the river!
