DESCRIPTION:Stop by the Wyckoff Urban Farm on the third Saturday of the month to learn about what we’re growing\, get to know our farmers\, and get your hands dirty with farm projects! \nDrop by anytime between 12-3PM to volunteer alongside our farm staff to care for our space and participate in special work projects. \nTickets are not required to attend\, but it’s always helpful to RSVP so we can plan projects accordingly. \nTHINGS TO KNOW: \n\nThis is an all ages event. We welcome individuals and families but children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their stay. Check out what’s happening during Farmhouse Family Day while you’re here!\nDress for the mess! DESCRIPTION:Coastal Cleanup Volunteers help keep our shorelines clean by removing debris that washes into the park’s marshes and beaches with the tides. Volunteers also document the types of trash collected—data that is shared with the Ocean Conservancy to support global efforts in understanding and combating plastic pollution. \nVolunteers of all ages are welcome; under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. SUMMARY:Volunteer Workday: Bed-Stuy Farm
DESCRIPTION:GreenThumb community gardens are developed\, led\, and cared for by dedicated volunteers who critically upkeep community gardens as public green spaces. \nBed-Stuy Farm is a vibrant green space revitalized through a partnership with the Brooklyn Rescue Mission Urban Harvest Center. It now serves as a community hub and outdoor classroom\, where neighborhood youth learn about food cultivation and community service. The garden supports local food access by distributing fresh produce through its food pantry\, and features two greenhouses\, a chicken coop\, fruit trees\, and numerous raised beds. \nJoin us for a hands-on volunteer day as we upgrade the garden’s aging wooden raised beds with long-lasting metal ones. This is a great opportunity to support a dynamic community space while learning about urban agriculture. Please wear comfortable\, weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. DESCRIPTION:Join us for Open Hours at Kingsland Wildflowers — an opportunity for the public to learn about the green roofs\, the native plants present\, and the Newtown Creek while enjoying the golden hour from our scenic wildflower meadows. Open hours are free and open to the public and will take place every Friday from April 18 to June 27\, 2025\, weather-permitting. \nFor the 2025 Open Hours season\, we are excited to also be opening our Newtown Native Nursery\, allowing visitors to explore (and purchase) native plants that we grow on site\, and can be a great addition for any greenspace you may have or be involved in! \nThis is a family friendly event\, kindly keep in mind that we use our green roofs as an educational resource\, we prefer that furry friends stay at home. NCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the space\, the ecological benefits of green roofs\, and talk about our current activities around Newtown Creek! We will have drinks and light refreshments on hand for guests to enjoy. \nMusic on select Fridays \nMay 13th – Cal Fish \nJune 16th – Liver \nJune 27th – Maidenhead +DJ Chase Coppins \nPlease note that not all roofs are ADA compliant\, our paths have a 34” width and can have some uneven surfaces including bluestone\, small gravel\, and soil. SUMMARY:Coastal Cleanup (Brooklyn Bridge Park)
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Cleanup Volunteers help keep our shorelines clean by removing debris that washes into the park’s marshes and beaches with the tides. Volunteers also document the types of trash collected—data that is shared with the Ocean Conservancy to support global efforts in understanding and combating plastic pollution. \nVolunteers of all ages are welcome; under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
