Join us May 5th as we kick off Spring with our first hands-on event! \nNCA welcomes volunteers and horticulture enthusiasts to help us expand our native nursery\, propagated from locally collected wild seed. Plants grown in our greenhouse are used to supplement our restoration projects around the Creek\, maintain the rooftop meadows at Kingsland Wildflowers\, and integrated into our Newtown Native Nursery. This is an ideal opportunity for those looking to support an attractive habitat for our local ecology. \nOur horticulturist Brenda Suchilt will be on site to help guide activities such as up-potting and plant maintenance\, as well as answer any questions you may have. \nFollowing our kick-off event\, the series will then run every third Tuesday of the month throughout the growing season. When selecting a ticket type\, please register for a specific date to volunteer with the Greenhouse Gang you are expected to join. \nBefore the event\, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form (Adult form here and Minor form here).

Since decommissioning\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession! \nPlease note: the NYPD generally closes the parking lot around 9 pm and while this event is scheduled to end around 8:30 pm we encourage you to use street parking or public transportation for this event. This is a great opportunity for new and experienced gardeners looking to get involved in community gardening. \nWe’ll provide all the tools\, training\, and guidance to have a productive and safe volunteer day! Please wear closed work shoes and weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note some tasks will involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending\, squatting\, and moving. \nThis event will be rescheduled to Sunday\, August 30 if inclement weather is in the forecast. \nFor information about group volunteering\, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program at gt.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov. \nThis event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and NOAA at the Canarsie Beach Cleanup! \n\n\n\nPlease join us along with CM Mercedes Narcisse’s office for a volunteer cleanup at Canarsie Beach in Brooklyn. \nThis once small fishing village saw its population boom after WWII and at one time was a major competitor to Coney Island. The Pier and beach remain a hotspot for fishing\, paddling and picnics. Located within the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area\, Canarsie Beach and salt marsh also remain hotspots for marine wildlife and birds. \nThe cleanup will run from 10am to 12:00pm.
