SUMMARY:Coastal Cleanup (Brooklyn Bridge Park)
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Cleanup Volunteers help keep our shorelines clean by removing debris that washes into the park’s marshes and beaches with the tides. Volunteers also document the types of trash collected—data that is shared with the Ocean Conservancy to support global efforts in understanding and combating plastic pollution. \nVolunteers of all ages are welcome; under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Open Hours at Kingsland Wildflowers — an opportunity for the public to learn about the green roofs\, the native plants present\, and the Newtown Creek while enjoying the golden hour from our scenic wildflower meadows. Open hours are free and open to the public and will take place every Friday from April 18 to June 27\, 2025\, weather-permitting. \nFor the 2025 Open Hours season\, we are excited to also be opening our Newtown Native Nursery\, allowing visitors to explore (and purchase) native plants that we grow on site\, and can be a great addition for any greenspace you may have or be involved in! \nThis is a family friendly event\, kindly keep in mind that we use our green roofs as an educational resource\, we prefer that furry friends stay at home. NCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the space\, the ecological benefits of green roofs\, and talk about our current activities around Newtown Creek!
