DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

SUMMARY:Tree Care And Pruning (PS 4 Paradise Garden)
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will learn the basic biology of pruning\, including stem structure\, vascular tissue\, and the CODIT (Compartmentalization of Decay In Trees) theory. They will explore the functions of pruning and the primary types of cuts\, including thinning\, reduction\, and heading cuts. The workshop will also cover healthy and unhealthy tree structures. Participants will be introduced to the standard three-cut pruning method and the basic tools for small-scale pruning\, including hand pruners\, hand saws\, and pole saws. Additionally\, the workshop will discuss best practices for tree care during the dormant winter months\, including pruning\, mulching\, removing invasive or problematic plants\, and inspecting for major defects or diseases. \nNYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants at Ridgewood Reservoir!\n\n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Join retired elementary school educator and urban gardener Leslie Mireille Fiske in hands-on\, kid friendly gardening activities suitable for 2nd through 5th grade children.  The children will be exploring\, observing\, planting\, harvesting and sampling a variety of herbs\, flowers and vegetables through the spring into summer growing season. Activities will take place on the library’s roof-top demonstration garden. \nThis program is for children in 2nd-5th grade. Online registration is required. \nPlease note that the rooftop garden can get very hot and sunny. Please prepare accordingly.
