DESCRIPTION:No experience necessary\, join us on Penn Pier to learn the ins and outs of fishing in Jamaica Bay! Participants will also learn about fish identification\, fishing equipment and techniques\, angling ethics\, and aquatic ecology. \nThis is a FREE program! All supplies\, including rods and bait will be provided. \nEach session is limited to 15 fishing rods; families/small groups are encouraged to share a rod. \nPlease only register for one session per Friday\, to give others a chance to fish. \n  \nSession times: 2:00pm to 2:45pm | 3:00pm to 3:45pm | 4:00pm to 4:45pm \nIf a session is sold out\, email scspeducation@parks.ny.gov or call (718)-277-2420 ext 5003 to learn how to be added to the waitlist. \n  \nAdaptable fishing equipment is available\, but limited in supply per session. Specialized equipment is reserved for anybody who may need assistance holding a rod. DESCRIPTION:GreenThumb community gardens are developed\, led\, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. \nFred McLeod Community Garden\, FKA Marcus Garvey Tenants Association Garden\, is a thriving community garden in Brownsville with 30 raised beds\, multiple styles of trellises for vertical growing\, a greenhouse\, 3-bin compost\, two apple trees\, and more than 10 varieties of mint. They regularly host youth groups\, special needs schools\, and workshops\, and have received multiple City Parks Foundation grants to improve access and expand community programs. \nJoin GreenThumb and Fred McLeod Community Garden for a public workday to help prepare pathways\, weed\, prune\, paint\, organize tools\, and cover bare soil. Tours last roughly 60-90 minutes\, and start from the entrance of Pier 1 and finish near Pier 3. Tourists and locals alike will learn new insights into the waterfront and world-class Park. \nWaterfront Walks take place twice monthly on Sundays (10:30 AM) and Tuesdays (6:30 PM May-August and 6:00 PM in September-October). SUMMARY:Coastal Cleanup (Brooklyn Bridge Park)
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Cleanup Volunteers help keep our shorelines clean by removing debris that washes into the park’s marshes and beaches with the tides. Volunteers also document the types of trash collected—data that is shared with the Ocean Conservancy to support global efforts in understanding and combating plastic pollution. \nVolunteers of all ages are welcome; under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
